The Polish defense ministry is speeding up requests for 10 combat-ready helicopter bids, from foreign and domestic manufacturers, after the “outbreak of civil war” in eastern Ukraine, according to Polish Radio. Main contenders, RBC says: AgustaWestland/Turkish Aerospace Industries T129, the Boeing (BA) AH-64E Apache Guardian, and the Airbus (EADSY) Helicopters EC 665 Tiger.
A formal tender for about 32 attack helicopters could be launched in 2015 instead of 2018. Poland in July narrowed bidders for a potential $8 billion missile defense system to Raytheon (RTN) and Eurosam. (Last week, Nomura Securities lowered its GDP forecast for Poland; Russia recently banned Polish fruit and vegetables imports in retaliation for Eurozone sanctions and The iShares MSCI Poland Capped ETF (EPOL) fell. It’s up nearly 1% today.)
